The Republic of Cyprus is strengthening the role of the ICC Trust Fund

The Republic of Cyprus, a State Party to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC), has made a voluntary contribution of 25,000 euros to the Trust Fund for Victims (TFV), thereby reaffirming its commitment to international justice and the rights of victims of crimes under the Rome Statute. This amount has been designated by the Republic of Cyprus as an unrestricted contribution and will be used to compensate victims for the harm they have suffered.
H.E. Kevin Kelly, a member of the TFV Board of Directors, stated: “On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Republic of Cyprus for its voluntary contribution to the Trust Fund for Victims. Cyprus has demonstrated a remarkable commitment to the cause of the TFV by consistently donating to the Fund every year since 2017. This new donation sends an important signal of support in these challenging times and will be crucial in ensuring that victims of heinous crimes are compensated and given a chance to heal and rebuild their lives.”

Since 2017, Cyprus has provided regular annual support to the VFT through voluntary contributions, with the total amount of voluntary contributions exceeding 150,000 euros.

Background Information on the Victims’ Trust Fund
Voluntary contributions to the Victims’ Trust Fund ensure that the International Criminal Court’s recovery mandate can be carried out by funding services and activities that provide recognition, remembrance, and material support through rehabilitation programs.
The TFV calls on States Parties and other entities to contribute to the disbursement of reparations to victims in dire need, particularly in connection with the Ntaganda and Ongwen cases. The TFV’s annual funding target has been set at a minimum of 10 million euros.
Contributions to the Trust Fund for Victims qualify as official development assistance (ODA). TFV programs for victims of crimes within the jurisdiction of the ICC contribute to the broader impact of various United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including peace, justice, and strong institutions (SDG 16), poverty reduction (SDG 1), good health and well-being (SDG 3), gender equality (SDG 5), decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), reduced inequalities (SDG 10), and climate action (SDG 13).
